well.. its 2012. super excited for this new year. sammys is growing and growing and doing some big stuff. we want to thank 2011 for coming and being here. it was an interesting year for me personally with a mother in law passing away, but had some up's with having a beautiful baby and naming her SEATTLE. we love her so much and the name is MY personal favorite thing since that is where I served my mission at. it holds a close part in my heart, and in fact, nikki (my wife) and i are going back to visit Seattle next week.. super excited to show her the grounds that i call sacred. should be fun.

for sammys, we have alot of fun stuff going on and to release about our brand. let me tell you some of our goals, share some events going on with us, but also some pictures to show you.

Sammy's is expanding. not just in locations of restaurants, but with our network & brand. we have opened 2 new departments. we now have "sammys restaurants", "sammys sounds" and "sammys media"

we want to do more merchandise- watches, shirts, hats, leather mustache keychains and maybe more.

we have been asked by alot of restaurants to help mold their brands, help promote other events, and get the word out about other friends in business. we love to do this, because it helps us, helps the local economy and ultimately creates a natural brand for all of us. we also have recieved alot of help from friends to, with our new years events, rooftop concerts we are a sponsor for, our own concerts and other events we are involved in.

by the way, yellow sammys van is growing a mustache right now.. you will see its groomed mustache soon..

Review: Your Heart Out review
Website: http://sammyscafe.blogspot.comFinally this week, Your Heart Out’s Courtney Buell continues the blog’s food reviews outside of SLC. This weeks review is of Sammy’s Cafe in Provo. Sammy’s is a burger and fries kinda place, but offers up the scarily sounding “pieshakes”. For those not in the know a pieshake is “essentially a shake that has an entire slice of pie blended into it” and according to Courtney is “Heaven in a Cup”. And on that quite frankly disturbing note, I bid you farewell and a great weekend!

Downtown, just around the corner from the Marriott. I was in the area on business and took a chance on this little (~10 seats) joint. I had the bacon cheeseburger and a strawberry shake. Yum! A well-cooked burger topped to order, and a killer shake. I'm not sure if the shake tops my favorite (Mad Greek Restaurant in Baker) but it's very close. I also had a sample of a colleague's banana pie shake (they put real pie slices in there), which was quite good though banana isn't my usual flavor.

The hip burger joint Sammy’s Café, located at 27 N. 100 W., offers an alternative to the mellow coffee shop atmosphere of Pennyroyal.

With a modernized 50s-malt-shop feel, Sammy’s beckons Utah Valley’s young people. Large blue swirls creep around the front and sides of the white building, placing it in stark contrast with the drab brick structure next door. Inside, bright intricately painted wooden letters on a silver and blue mural backdrop form the name of the establishment.

Hand-crafted scripture cases hang in the upper left corner with a “For Sale” sign placed in front and Polaroids signed by recent customers coat the entire north wall.

In the same swirling blue theme as the outside design, a space above the door reads “Everything is made with love.”

One of Sammy’s main selling points is the pie shake. According to Sam Schultz, the owner of Sammy’s Café, the idea for pie shakes — milkshakes with actual slices of pie blended in — came from the banana crème pie shake at Sonic. Schultz said he was frustrated because Sonic never included real pie in the shake.

But Sammy’s has other appeals as well.

“It’s got a cool vibe,” Schultz said. “People feel comfortable here. It's a middle point."

Tessa Nokleby, 21, a UVU student from Seattle and a patron of Sammy’s Café agrees.

“Sammy’s is super hip. It definitely attracts a younger crowd,” Nokleby said.

So last week I went to an aquabats concert. Mc Bat Commander at one point in the performance, whilst wishing holiday cheer to everyone, they explained how they celebrate December 25th. They all give each other presents on december 24th, then on December 25th they open their exchaned gifts and text each other stuff like: cool presents dude! Thanks Bro! And they call it Textmas! And to the rest of you who celebrate Christmas, Merry Christmas too!

You can get a burger pretty much anywhere these days, but why go just anywhere when Sammy’s in downtown Provo serves them with such charm, atmosphere, fresh ingredients and uhh-mazing hand-mixed pieshakes?

Thanks to its distinctive paint job, this eatery is nearly impossible to miss with its bright blue swirls on an otherwise clean facade. Take a look inside and you’ll notice the artist who painted the outside left his/her mark on the interior, too—right down to designing the menu. Set yourself up in a booth, and you’ll feel fit for a springtime-inspired lunch even if you came in your puffy coat.

But back to those pieshakes. For those of you who haven’t had the pleasure, a pieshake is essentially a shake that has an entire slice of pie blended into it, aka Heaven in a Cup. Sammy’s whips up several varieties like coconut cream and classic apple. We had our minds blown by a pumpkin cheesecake shake that I couldn’t help finishing despite my previously downing an entire burger and side of fries.

Speaking of burgers and fries, Sammy’s does those too and dang well. Choose from a variety of specialty quarter-pound burgers with all the fixins, or build your own from scratch. Aside from chicken burger options, you can also try a BLT or veggie grilled cheese sandwich with guacamole.

We went for Sammy’s Choice quarter-pound burger and the El Paso grilled chicken burger. Sammy’s Choice was topped with melted provolone, sauteed onions and mushrooms, bacon, guacamole, barbecue sauce and veggies—so messy and so good. The El Paso included pepper jack cheese, bacon, guacamole, pico de gallo and veggies: an Americanized south-of-the-border experience made better with the addition of pork. Order a side of crispy batter-dipped seasoned or sweet potato fries to round out your meal. And your stomach.

I am a big fan of Sammy’s– the owner is super nice. I always stop in for sweet potato fries and a shake when I’m in Provo– definitely one of the best deals around.
